GANG SPECIALIST CERTIFICATION

PROCESS

The Gang Specialist Certification process consists of five (5) phases as outlined below.

  1. Instruction.
  2. Examination.
  3. Grading.
  4. Evaluation.
  5. Review.
Note: Evaluations are must be completed in order to receive your certificate!

Below is the Gang Specialist Certification lesson plan outline. The Gang Specialist Certification is designed to provide graduates with a structured understanding of the study of gangs and gang culture. Graduates receive a special membership package substantiating the individual's achievements and granting the rights, honors and privileges of the Certified Gang Specialist (CGS) designation!

RECERTIFICATION

Annual recertification is required to maintain the Gang Specialist Certification status active from year to year! Recertification consists of the Gang Specialist Refresher course, providing training certificates for the Gangs Across New Mexico or the Region I - VII Gang Overview courses, the New Mexico Prison Gangs course and the examination. The above mentioned courses are updated periodically as new information is provided. The evaluation is not required for recertification but strongly encouraged and highly recommended so that we may adjust the program to our membership's needs.

Additionally, Gang Specialist Certification holders are required to maintain continued education by contributing to the monthly newsletter and any of the membership group discussion forums or by submitting one (1) finished intelligence product a month. This requirement may be waived if serving on the Executive Board, a Committee or contributing to a project.

Recertification is offered at the NMGIA Annual Conference!
